I think this is quite necessary in case of dedicated hosting. More than anything, it is the support that matters for most sites. There can be downtime, but the guys should know how to fix this. 'course, that was back when I was a lead unix sysadmin for AT&T - when the server went down, Barbara drove 40+ miles to bring it back up.
